I'm not speaking from any actual experience, just general random pieces of information I remember reading.



I believe usually the international branches are semi-independent entities incorporated in the specific country, so expenses and revenues are kept within that country and they partially cancel out as far as currency fluctuation is concerend.



If money has to actually move between countries there's extra regulation and taxation involved, so it's preferable to avoid it.



So there isn't one big pile of money in one country, just strategically allocated resources distributed as needed in whatever form is deemed most optimal, and currency-related gains or losses are listed on the quarterly balance sheet.



Of course, if they're really concerned about hedging currency they can use instruments such as forex options or futures.
